Summary
This article provides information on how to create version 4 recovery disks with out using Recovery Media Creator on the Advent range of personal computers.
Problem or Symptom
The Recovery Media Creator utility fails to complete the process of creating the recovery media at either the burning or finalizing stage.
Solution(s)

As an alternative to using the Recovery Media Creator utility on your Advent computer you can also use the NTI CD & DVD Maker writing software installed on your computer. There are several advantages in this, including increased burning speeds and compatibility with a wider range of media.

This can be achieved by following the steps below.

  • Ensure that all media is removed from the optical drive(s).
  • Open Recovery Media Creator.

To open Recovery Media Creator click Start > All Programs > System Recovery and then select Recovery Media Creator.

  • Select the option to create a Recovery DVD
Once again make sure that there is no media in any of the drives.
  • The process will begin to prepare the files on your hard disk drive for burning. After approximately 5-10 minutes a message will pop up asking you to insert a DVD.
  • At this point open NTI CD & DVD Maker without inserting a DVD.
NTI can be found by clicking Start > All Programs > NTI CD & DVD Maker and then selecting NTI CD & DVD Maker from the list of programs.

  • Once the main program has opened, select Data and then Data DVD from the options in the middle of the screen.
  • This will then open a new window. From the top left of screen click File > Create Disc from ISO Disc Image File.

A window called Open will appear. You will then need to navigate using the Look in: box to the folder C:\TEMP where the image file is located.

The image file will be called CD0.  The file will be anywhere between 1-2GB in size.  Select this file and click Open.  Insert a blank DVD into your drive to burn the image.

Once the image has been burnt, exit NTI CD & DVD Maker and then Click Cancel in Recovery Media Creator.
Delete the C:\Temp folder as the ISO file will be taking up 1-2 GB
